The Lebanese Institute for Democracy and Human Rights (LIFE) is an independent, humanitarian, non-profit and non-governmental organization. Its staff consists of Human Rights professionals including country experts, lawyers, and academics of diverse backgrounds and nationalities. Supervised by the LIFE Head Office in Beirut, LIFE has worked in various countries of the Middle East to encourage political systems reforms that suffered of tyranny, constitutional and legal violations. We also provide assistance, protection and durable solutions to refugees, internally displaced persons in Lebanon and the world as well as individuals or groups whose legal rights were violated. LIFE defends the rights of people worldwide, promotes and protects the rights of refugees and is an active member in the governmental committees relevant to the situation of prisons and prisoners in Lebanon. We take action during situations of armed conflict, and engage in other contexts where our competences will add value. We scrupulously investigate abuses, expose the facts widely, and pressure those with power to respect rights and secure justice. LIFE’s main activity is the deliverance of humanitarian aid through program activities in the field. We have five departments that take care of education, medical and health care, shelter and food security, democracy and Human Rights. Our fifth department, Information and Statistics, documents all of the previous activities. As an independent organization, LIFE works as part of a vibrant movement to uphold human dignity and advance the cause of Human Rights and Democracy for all, by holding workshops and conferences dedicated to Human Rights and Humanitarian Law. LIFE also advocates on local, national and regional levels for the rights of displaced and vulnerable people based on our Democracy and Human Rights department.
